In today’s newsletter, we'll be shining a spotlight on the story behind Allbirds, the sustainable footwear company that has taken the world by storm. Allbirds has become a household name for its comfortable and eco-friendly shoes, but did you know how it all started?

From New Zealand to the World

Allbirds was founded in 2014 by Tim Brown, a former New Zealand soccer player, and Joey Zwillinger, an American engineer with a background in biotechnology. Tim Brown had a vision to create comfortable, sustainable, and stylish footwear that would have a minimal impact on the environment. After retiring from professional soccer, he pursued this dream by enrolling in the London School of Economics and attending classes at the renowned Central Saint Martins art school.

Kickstarting a Revolution

In 2014, Tim Brown launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the prototype of his sustainable shoes. The campaign was a massive success, raising over $100,000 in just five days. This overwhelming support from the public proved that there was a real demand for eco-friendly footwear, and the journey of Allbirds began.

Joining Forces

Shortly after the Kickstarter campaign, Tim Brown joined forces with Joey Zwillinger, who shared his passion for sustainability and innovation. Together, they set out to create a company that would produce not only comfortable and stylish shoes but also promotes environmental awareness and responsibility. They decided to use natural materials like merino wool, eucalyptus fibers, and sugar cane to create their footwear, reducing the carbon footprint and waste associated with traditional shoe manufacturing.

The Birth of the Wool Runner

In 2016, Allbirds launched its first product, the Wool Runner. Made from superfine New Zealand merino wool, this shoe was designed to be comfortable, breathable, and sustainable. The Wool Runner was an instant hit, garnering rave reviews from customers and media outlets alike. Not long before Allbirds expanded its product line to include other sustainable footwear options, such as the Tree Runner and the Sugar Zeffers, if this expansion of the product line was happening right, Allbirds could have utilized ShipDudes to fulfill orders for their new shoes.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Allbirds' dedication to sustainability goes beyond its choice of materials. The company continually seeks ways to reduce its environmental impact, from using recyclable packaging to supporting carbon offset projects. Additionally, Allbirds is a certified B Corporation, which means that it meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Looking Ahead

Today, Allbirds has become a global brand, with stores in several countries and a growing online presence. The company's commitment to sustainability, innovation, and comfort has resonated with consumers worldwide, making Allbirds a leader in eco-friendly footwear.

See you next week :)
